Herbal Preparations for Beginners: Liquid Extracts is an entry-level herbalism class to teach the basics of liquid plant extractions. Together, we will learn about both alcohol and non-alcohol based extractions. Learn the basics of formulating and crafting teas, infusions, decoctions, tinctures, glycerites, and oxymels! Students will get to formulate, craft, and take home their very own tincture! (or N/A extract)

Class will be held on May 16th from 10 AM - 12:30PM at Blosm Studio (8050 35th Avenue Northeast, Seattle, WA 98115).

Topics we will cover in this class include:

  • Plant sourcing, preparation, and preservation: making potent, shelf stable extracts

  • When + why + how to use different types of extracts: plant constituents & solubility, basic indications for different types of plant medicine

  • Water-based extractions: making teas, infusions, and decoctions

  • Alcohol-based extractions: making tinctures

  • Non-alcohol-based extractions: glycerites and oxymels
